Tomorrow is the official first day of New York Fashion Week (which runs from September 8th through the 15th)but we got a taste of the shows today. Adidas and Kanye West have released their latest Yeezy Season 4 collection. Usually, I’m really excited about the show and I’m anticipating the grand reveal but this year, not so much. In my mind, I thought it’s probably going to be the same type of looks and concept from last year; and I was right. Models wore neutral spandex like garments and stood in a grid like formation very similar to what was shown at Madison Square Garden last season. I can’t be too upset because the neutral color palette is still on trend. Also, I did see a few outerwear pieces in the collection that were interesting but overall it didn’t hit the mark.
There was actually some stirring about in the audience as a result of the number of models falling or fainting due to exhaustion. I think this will be a bigger discussion versus the actual collection. In my opinion, as a model if you agree to work this show then you know what to expect and you should be prepared to endure. However on the other hand, if in case models are falling over then the Yeezy team should definitely step in and ensure the safety of the models. We’ll see how this unfolds. I’m sure Adidas will have to step in to set boundaries going forward.
I’m hoping to see something unexpected from the Yeezy Season team in the future. I know they are filled with ideas from talented and creative minds so I hope they push the envelope next year.
