Wale came into the major leagues with a star studded class of peers and rivals in 2008. He dove into the mainstream with Drake, KiD CuDi, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa and other notable names alongside him. Over the course of four albums, several mixtapes and two collab albums with MMG, Wale has been able to carve out a small niche of fans and admires through his “poetic” writing and smart wordplay. I remember in 2007 when I was on MySpace looking for new rappers to listen to when I stumbled upon Wale. The first song I ever heard was WALEDANCE, a great freestyle he did over the Justice song D.A.N.C.E. I ran through his entire back catalog and when 100 Miles & Runnin’ was released I became a true fan. Eight years later my enthusiasm for Wale has diminished but I still appreciate the work he’s done. With the recent release of The Album About Nothing I felt it was appropriate to revisit my favorite Wale tracks.
