Pop music doesn’t have a set definition, as it literally just means “Popular Music.” Hip-Hop is currently Pop if we’re basing the criteria on popularity only, but we obviously know that isn’t the case. We know that Pop music has a particular sound and audience. It’s typically the most broad and palpable music of the time. The music that the most amount of young people can enjoy. It’s as broad as it gets in terms of definitions. In Pop history there are several men and women who have defined the sound of music for a generation. Michael Jackson is, and forever will be, The King of Pop, but there are other royalties. The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Madonna have all defined Pop for a generation. In 2014 we have Lady Gaga, who is so Pop it’s almost alienating. Katy Perry, who might be too broad for her own good. Then we have others like Pink, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. What makes Pop so interesting is how quickly the Pop stars of the moment can change. In a few months this list could look completely different, and that’s why we are talking about it right now. Here are the top 4 Pop stars of the moment.
