Sometime last night the people over at FOX officially announced who will play the lead roles in their Fantastic Four reboot. Some of this might not be new as half of these names have been attached to these roles for some time now. Miles Teller, who starred in The Spectacular Now and That Awkward Moment (alongside Michael B), will play Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic. Kate Mara, of House Of Cards fame, will star as Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman. Michael B. Jordan, who has long been semi-confirmed, will play Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch. Lastly, Jamie Bell is still in serious talks to play Jacob Grimm aka The Thing.
Overall, this is great casting. Miles Teller is a young actor on the rise. He has comedic chops, dramatic range and he’s gained some more attention at Sundance for his role in Whiplash. It’s interesting to see how young they are going in this reboot. If you remember, Ioan Gruffudd had graying hair in the 2005 film. Michael B. Jordan is gearing up to be the next big thing. He is very charismatic and a perfect choice for the funny and slightly ridiculous Human Torch.
Kate Mara has been solid in the three House Of Cards episodes I’ve seen, and I think she is more than capable of playing The Invisible Woman. Jessica Alba did it and she isn’t considered a classic thespian in the slightest. The one that is a little more interesting in Jamie Bell simple because I haven’t seen much of him. Scanning his filmography I only recognize him in Jumper, and that movie was only memorable for Sam Jackson’s hair. Plus he’ll be playing a character who we’ll largely see in CGI similar to Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. On the plus side, he has done voice work which will come in handy for this role.
There seems to be some promise with this movie. We’ll have to wait and see. Fantastic Four is slated for a June 19th, 2015 release.
