WPRI reported earlier today that a man involved in a shooting by a female Pawtucket police officer has died due to complications from his bullet wounds, the man, whose name is yet to be released, died at Rhode Island Hospital. The female officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave which is department protocol.
On Thursday at approximately 6pm Pawtucket Police responded to a 911 call to Webster Street, details on what happened that led to the shooting of the suspect are still being investigated. Rosalind Limardo, a resident who lives in the neighborhood where the shooting took place and Cox Cable employees were the only witnesses to the incident, according to Limardo she heard “five loud popping noises just outside her home.” Limardo and the Cox employees have been brought in for questioning. Reports from several local news sites are saying the man who was shot was carrying some sort of weapon.
Rhode Island State Police, Col. Steven O’Donnell has confirmed that detectives, forensic investigators and members of the Rhode Island Attorney Generals office are conducting their own investigations, they are still unsure on who fired the gun first. More details on the incident are expected to be released Friday afternoon.
