2016 will be an exciting year for movies. Warner Bros. will begin building its expanded universe, Marvel is dividing their cinematic universe and Fox is exploring different characters. 2015 was a great year for movies and hopefully, 2016 can be even better. Here my 4 most anticipated movies of 2016.
Deadpool made his first live-action debut in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Everything in the movie was bad, but the one of the better casting choices was Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. He has the perfect amount of wit and sarcasm for the comic book hero. Years later test footage was “leaked” online and was well-received by fans. With so much positive feedback FOX decided to let Reynolds star, and Tim Miller direct, an R-Rated, solo Deadpool movie.
The marketing for the movie has been perfectly silly and fourth-wall breaking. If this movie is successful we may see more R-Rated comic book movies, and FOX may allow more solo mutant movies. I have high hopes that this movie will deliver great action and spot on humor.
Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice
After two trailers I’m still uncertain about this movie. This could be really bad. We have Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lux Luther, Aquaman, The Flash, Cyborg, and Doomsday. Although most of these characters will be cameos there are still a lot of things that need setting up and introductions. Although Man Of Steel was the first movie is DC’s Expanded Universe, it will be this movie that will launch this shared story across multiple films and characters. This movie is a guaranteed financial hit, but will it do well commercially? Will fans accept Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne? There are many questions that need answering and will find out in March.
Rouge One: A Star Wars Story
When Disney bought LucasFilms in 2012 it becomes clear that we would have Star Wars for the rest of our lives. Disney intends to release at least one Star Wars movie a year in between the proper episodes. This one is a pretty good idea. In Star Wars: A New Hope we quickly hear about a mission to steal the Death Star plans. This movie will tell that story. It will be a fun, action-packed heist movie set in the Star Wars Universe… sign me up.
Captain America: Civil War
Marvel disappointed in 2015. I still haven’t watched Ant-Man and Age Of Ultron was overstuffed. Despite a dip this year, with one trailer they’ve got me excited for the next. Captain America: Civil War will be awesome as we see Steve Rogers and Tony Stark face off against one another. We will get our first look at Black Panther and the new Spider-Man. This is basically The Avenger’s 2.5 and that isn’t a bad thing.
