Marvel Announces Phase 3 Movie Line-Up

Not to be outdone by DC & WB, Marvel has announced plans for Phase 3 of their Cinematic Universe today. Although we knew many of these movies were coming we weren’t sure when, or in what order. As some of you know, many of these dates were already announced, but had no movies attached to them, and some movies were announced, but had no date. Here’s the list of upcoming Marvel movies after Ant-Man, which is the official end of Phase 2.

  • May 6th, 2016: Captain America: Civil War
  • Nov. 4th, 2016: Doctor Strange
  • May 5th, 2017: Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
  • July 28th, 2017: Thor: Ragnarok
  • Nov. 3rd, 2017: Black Panther
  • May 4th, 2018: Avengers: Infinity War – Part I
  • July 6th, 2018: Captain Marvel
  • Nov. 2nd, 2018: Inhumans
  • May 3rd, 2019: Avengers: Infinity War – Part II

During Marvel’s Media Day, President, Kevin Feige came on stage and announced each of these movies with little more than a logo and fans went crazy. First Doctor Strange, but this movie has been in development for sometime only lacking a lead and a release date. Many signs are pointing to Benedict Cumberbatch to play The Sorcerer Supreme. Captain America: Civil War, which will put Tony Stark and Steve Roger against one another, came next. This story will be adapted from Marvel’s classic Civil War storyline released in 2006. Having the co-leaders of the Avengers at odds will have huge implications for the rest of the Cinematic Universe. Next was Thor: Ragnarok, which, according to Feige, will be as impactful on Phase 3 as Cap 2 was on Phase 2. Its safe to assume that the events in this film will bring the Cosmic Realm closer to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Then James Gunn came on screen to reveal that Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 is coming in May 2017, soon than we thought. Its going to be interesting how they bring Star Lord & Co. to earth alongside Tony Stark, Hulk and the rest of The Avengers.

In Order: Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) & Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America)

Then we found out that Black Panther was finally coming in Nov. 2017. Rumors have been swirling for years now and after seeing Klaw and Cap’s broken shield in the Avengers 2 trailer fans saw this coming. 42 star Chadwick Boseman will star as T’Challa, King of Wakanda, the fictional African nation. Captain Marvel will be coming in 2018 only a year after the Wonder Woman solo film. The Inhumans will also be coming to theaters Nov. 2nd 2018, and will be an even riskier bet than Guardians. Lastly, a video put together of past Marvel movies highlighting the precious Infinity Gems. It ended with Thanos holding the famous Gauntlet and the reveal that the third team-up will be split in two parts. The Avengers: Infinity War Part I & II will release May 2018 and May 2019 respectively. Here is rough footage of all the announcements.

This is exciting news, but we obviously we don’t know all the details. We still don’t know who will star or direct the Inhumans, or Captain Marvel. What will the Avengers look like by 2018? Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth are at the end of their contracts. What does Phase 4 look like? What do you guys think of the announcements? Are you excited, overwhelmed, or confused? The heroes are getting more and more obscure, but we can’t just have Spider-Man and Batman forever right?
