Blog: The Fall Of The NBA Slam Dunk Contest

Arguably The Greatest.. Actually, I Lied. THE Greatest In-Game Dunker To Ever Bless The Game, Vince Carter’s Birthday Passed Yesterday And It Had Me Thinking About How Lackluster These Past Few Dunk Contests Have Been Lately. No Matter What The NBA Tries To Do In Terms Of Sprucing It Up, They Have Still Yet To Re-Create The Energy That Vince Carter Imposed On Us Some Odd Years Ago. But I Don’t Think The League Is Fully At Fault Here, The Superstars Just Don’t Want To Compete Anymore So We’re Left w. Players Like Jeremy Evans (2012, 2013) And Mason Plumlee (2015) To Fill In That Void, And Quite Frankly Nothing About That Sounds Appealing At All. Creativity Is Also At An All-Time Low, If I See Another In-Between The Legs Dunk It Would Be Too Soon. But Just Like Every Other NBA Fan I’ll Be Tuning In To This Year Just To Be Disappointed Again. It’s Sad That I’m More Interested In Watching Steph Curry Go Up Against Teammate Klay Thompson In The 3-Point Shootout Than This Sorry Thing We Call A Dunk Contest. If You Ask Me They Should Just Remaster The Performance That Vince Put On In 2000 And Air That Instead, But Until Then YouTube Will Suffice.
