Ain’t I A Woman? (A Speech By Sojourner Truth)

.

Had the opportunity to read and dissect this speech with my students this week during class. I thought it would be fun to share it with you all. Truth gave this speech in 1851 as White Women were fighting for their right to vote and Black people were resisting slavery. With all this social change on the horizon Sojourner wonder where Black Women fit in either movement. Check out the rendition performed by Kerry Washington above.
